Job Description

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Certified Technician-Level II Non Trekking fills medication orders, prepackages, compounds pharmaceuticals, refills & loads Pyxis & supplies, delivers medications, assists in managing Pyxis maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Pyxis inventory levels, precepts Pharmacy Tech Students, participates in applied education of Pharmacy Students, assists in data collection, and policy revisions, assists with USP 797 compliance, involved in departmental projects such as Pharmacy week, Health Fairs, etc and performs various clerical duties as assigned. The Certified Tech-Level II Non Trekking agrees to support the goals, objectives, and proper function of the department and the hospital in order to provide positive patient outcomes while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Certified Tech Level II Non Trekking will comply with the policies, laws, regulations, and standards that govern the practice of pharmacy as well as those of the hospital. The Certified Tech -Level II Non Trekking will maintain an appropriate level of competency in order to perform the job duties as required by the department, the hospital and any regulatory agencies.

Education: High School graduate or equivalent with strong math/algebra, reading comprehension, typing and

computer entry skills. Good human relations and oral/written communication skills required. Specialized training in

an accredited pharmacy Technician program is preferred.

Experience/

Qualifications

: Technician Certification is required with compliance in all aspects of a GHS Certified Pharmacy Technician-level I. State Certified with LLR/SC Board of Pharmacy or Nationally Certified

Pharmacy Technician with 3 years of hospital experience. Must maintain an appropriate level of competency in order to perform the job duties as required by the department, the hospital and any regulatory agencies. Strong knowledge of medications required.

Special Skills:

Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staffs.

Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

Ability to set priorities, makes decisions, and responds quickly to emergency requests.

Ability to assist the pharmacist in meeting the pharmaceutical needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult,

and geriatric patients.

Hours: Minimum of 40 hours per week based on the needs of the department; occasionally subjected to irregular hours or days.

Occupational Hazard: Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances

(including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions). Potential for exposure

to sharp instruments. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying

techniques are not used. (Potential for exposure to infectious patients or materials is negligible.)

Physical Requirements: Medium

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires normal range of hearing and vision in order to communicate and perform effectively. Requires intense and consistent concentration with attention to detail, and requires speed and accuracy. Requires operation of mechanical and electrical equipment, and listening to low levels of noise. Generally this person will work in a well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated, air conditioned environment under secure working conditions.
