Job Description

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist reports to the Director of Clinical Excellence Education. Under indirect supervision, the Nursing Professional Development Specialist consults with the Clinical Educator(s), Nursing leadership, ICCE, health system leadership and interprofessional team to lead, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based, quality and educational programs and activities that promote professional competency and role performance for nursing, interprofessional and non-licensed clinical staff.


Masters degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of three years of applied clinical experience as an RN. Masters degree from an accredited school of nursing preferred. Extensive knowledge of the units patient population, health care trends, community and regional resources and service availability to these populations. An ability to establish collaborative working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other health care providers. NPD certification required within 3 months of eligibility.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Certifications may be required to maintain employment for a respective department.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
