JOB SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Controls function of scan procedures and directs patient flow. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic and interventional studies. Involves close patient contact and requires ability to function with initiative and accuracy.
Responsible to: Director of Radiology
Workers supervised: Students assigned to Ultrasound
Interrelationships: Radiologists, Radiology Staff, other departments in the medical center.
MINIMAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Imaging Program, or graduate of a School of Radiologic Technology with on the job training in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
Candidate must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Diagnostic Ultrasound experience preferred.
Requires frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling weights of one hundred (100) pounds or more utilizing assistive devices /additional devices.. Requires standing or sitting for extended periods. Visual attention and concentration are essential.
AGE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Recognizes the normal signs (growth and development of aging) of the patient population served and understands the requirements of performing clinical work on the specific age group(s). Completes annual training specific to age needs of patient population.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY I:
Have knowledge of proper use of personal protective clothing and equipment and of areas where clothing and equipment are maintained. Receives education and training in universal precautions, barrier protection techniques and modes of transmission of blood-borne viruses.
Transports patients to and from examination rooms.
Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure in order to perform the desired sonographic examination.
Properly selects and manipulates probes and technical factors in order to assess pathology in patients.
Ensures exam room is properly stocked with all necessary equipment and materials in order to provide for patients. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Reviews processed films with radiologist in order to ensure acceptable quality.
Assists Radiology director with special projects, data retrieval and compilation for performance improvement.
Responsible for continuing education requirements as set forth by the ARDMS and ARRT.
